Here’s your chance to have an original composition workshopped with the guidance of Carl Vine, noted composer and Artistic Director of Musica Viva Australia, and performed and recorded by the Australian String Quartet

How

Who’s Eligible
- All undergraduate and post graduate composition students enrolled in an Australian university
- All graduates in the first five years of practise who are resident in Australia

What to Compose
- A piece for string quartet of no more than 6 minutes and no less than 4 minutes duration
- You may submit a composition which is part of a larger work as long as it stands alone
- Pieces suitable for encores will be given special consideration

What to avoid
- Electronics and or special effects which involve additional instruments

What to submit
- To be eligible for selection you must submit:
  - 3 copies of the score
  - 1 full set of parts with appropriate page turns
  - Program notes about your work. No more than 200 words.
  - Full contact details including:

   - Name, address, phone, email, current level of study undergraduate/postgraduate) 
   - and name of University OR year of graduation and name of University

When to submit
- No later than 5 pm on Monday 31 May 2010
- Submissions postmarked after this date will not be considered

- Submissions sent by email or other electronic means will NOT be considered

Selection Process
- The Australian String Quartet and Carl Vine will select 6 works
- All entrants will be notified of the results in writing

Selected Composers 
- Will receive a special invitation to attend the Forum
- Will receive a copy of the CD recording of the final concert
- Will be invited to attend the Forum Dinner as guests of ASQ

Financial Support for Selected Composers living outside of Adelaide
- Composers living outside of Adelaide will be offered financial assistance to ensure they can attend the Forum including:
  - A return economy airfare from their city of residence up to the value of $350
  - A contribution of up to $200 for accommodation

Free Entry
- All activities including workshops, forums and the concert are open to the public

National Composers Forum Dinner
- All welcome
- Food and beverages to be purchased by those attending

Activities
- ASQ and Carl Vine will workshop the selected pieces with the composers
- Lecture demonstration by Carl Vine and ASQ on his String Quartet No 3
- Forums led by Carl Vine, Tim Matthies and John Davis
- Finale concert in Elder Hall featuring the ASQ performing all selected works
